Four names businesses search while comparing commercial movers, and what each one actually says about itself before you call.

Search any of these four names while comparing commercial movers and you land on very different kinds of companies. One has branches across a home region and makes no claim beyond it. Another describes itself in its own words as a nationwide network. A third is not a company at all, but an alliance of separately owned partner firms. None of what follows compares price or ranks one above another, and none of it is us verifying a claim; it is what each entity's own site currently says about itself, worth reading before the first phone call.

Corrigan Company / Corrigan Moving Systems

By its own company history page, Corrigan traces its start to 1923: "Frank “The Chief” Corrigan came to Dearborn, Michigan, in 1923, lured by the $5 daily salary promised by Ford Motor Company." When the Great Depression hit, he began using his own trucks to help displaced families move their belongings, and that hauling work became Corrigan Moving Systems.

Corrigan is a United Van Lines agent rather than the van line itself: "In 1949, Corrigan joined United Van Lines because the idea of being part of an agency-owned van line appealed to Paul." Corrigan has been headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan since 1987, the year its own timeline records that "Corrigan moves its headquarters to a new 87,000-square-foot warehouse and office facility in Farmington Hills, Michigan." Its history page now describes it, in its own words, as "one of the largest and most respected moving companies in the country", Corrigan's self-description, not an outside ranking.

The same history page shows the company is still family-run: a fourth generation now sits in the top leadership roles, and its own timeline states "Nathan was promoted to President in 2024 and Kevin works on the senior leadership team." Worth knowing if continuity of ownership matters to you when comparing a family company against a nationwide network or a coalition like OMA below.

Corrigan's own site makes no national-footprint claim. Its history page lists offices in Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, Toledo (Ohio), Flint, Midland, Grand Rapids, Cleveland, Rochester and Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), a Midwest and Northeast branch footprint, not a nationwide one.

Beyond office moving, Corrigan Logistics' own service list also names Government Moving Services, Library Relocations, Medical Center & Laboratory Relocation Services, Schools and Universities Relocations, Logistics Solutions for Businesses, and Warehousing and Distribution. Its office-moving page separately describes Corrigan as "an award-winning household goods and office mover" with "experience that spans more than 95 years."

Armstrong Relocation (The Armstrong Company)

Armstrong's own history page puts its start in Memphis: "Armstrong started in 1957 as a small, family-owned mover in Memphis." Its current self-description, in its own words: "Armstrong is a global leader in supply chain services and residential and commercial moving. Our nationwide network of local experts combine personalized attention and global reach to provide solutions tailored exactly to your needs."

On the commercial side, Armstrong states: "Our wide range of commercial services includes everything you need to get up and running quickly, from moving and installation to technical support and decommissioning," and names "expertise across a number of industries, including: Education Government Healthcare Hospitality Industrial." It separately says it "is also equipped to move large-scale facilities like hospitals and manufacturing locations."

NorthStar Moving Company

NorthStar's own site states: "NorthStar Moving Company was founded in 1994. Yep, over 30 years ago." On where it actually operates from, in its own words: "We started in California and now also have locations in Arizona and Texas, and we can move you from those states to anywhere."

That is a different shape from the other names on this page. NorthStar does not describe itself as a nationwide network; it describes a California-founded base with offices added in two more states, and outbound moves from that base to anywhere a client needs.

Office Moving Alliance (OMA)

OMA is the one name on this page that is not a single moving company. Legally it is Office Moving Alliance, LLC, and its own site describes it as "a coalition of highly vetted, world-class relocation partners, established to provide workplace solutions on a global level," founded, in its own words, "in 2007 by a group of like-minded market leaders in the office relocation industry." It states directly what that coalition looks like today: "We are comprised of 85+ partners, located in 350+ markets, throughout 30+ countries and 6 continents." In the US specifically, OMA says "we have teams covering 80+ markets; with brick and mortar locations within 150 miles of 97% of the U.S. population."

Because OMA is a coalition of separately owned partner firms rather than one company, contacting "OMA" in practice means being routed to whichever partner covers your market. That is a useful thing to confirm up front, since it changes who you are actually signing a contract with compared with a single company like Corrigan or Armstrong.
