Movers and brokers, and why the difference matters
A broker does not own trucks and does not carry your equipment. Telling the two apart before you sign changes who is responsible when something breaks.
Two companies can present near-identical websites, quote the same job, and have completely different relationships to your equipment. One will move it. The other will find someone else to move it.
Both are legitimate, both must be registered federally, and the distinction is recorded in a public database. It is worth two minutes before you sign anything.
The difference, as the regulator states it

Brokers arranging interstate moves are required to use only movers that are themselves registered with FMCSA.

Why it matters more on a commercial move
On a household move, using a broker mostly affects price transparency. On a commercial move it affects liability, because the company that quoted you and the company whose employees are carrying your server rack may be different entities with different insurance.
It also affects accountability on the day. A broker cannot fix a crew that arrives short-handed on your cutover weekend, because it is not their crew.
How to check
FMCSA's mover database records the type of moving business for each registered entity, alongside registration status, headquarters location, complaint history and safety information. The business type field is the one to read.
If you are using a broker deliberately, that is a legitimate choice. Ask which carrier will perform the work, then look that carrier up too.
